I think I have a new respect and love for Kathryn Bigelow. I've always respected her for being a strong female director as well as she did films that were "against" the typical female directed genre. It was not until I watched "The Hurt Locker" did I finally see the brilliance of her work, did I finally understand why she chooses to do the films that she does. As anyone should know, I love a good film with a very strong female lead (I mean, shit, two of my favorite films of all time are "Pan's Labyrinth" and "Coraline" and we need not repeat how awesome the two leads are in those films), so it was quite the surprise to me at how much I loved "The Hurt Locker". No woman in sight except Evangeline Lilly (OMG Kate!) in a very tiny role. I don't even know where to start with the review of this movie. The cast? The story? The intesity of the film? How well it was made that it put all other "Middle East war films" to fucking shame because it didn't sugarcoat it nor give a political bias as to what the filmmakers think of the war? It's just....ahhhhh sooo DAMN IT! I can't think straight! That's how good it is! I cannot think straight! I waited for three weeks of hunting Red Box to Red Box to finally get my hands on this film, and I think I'm going to treat myself tomorrow and buy the DVD. New favorite film! The last film I was THIS excited about after seeing it....probably...."Coraline"! This film for some reason struck a huge chord with me. Messy rant, but damn!!!! I love this movie. I watched it two days ago and my blood starts pumping fast when I think about this movie again. I can't stop thinking of how good it is. The actors in this film are all so good, it didn't seem like they molded into a role; it was like they were real people and the cameras just happened to be there. The plot was so well done, what a real way to show us what has been going on in the Middle East, and at the same time what a way to tell a story of the various men and the different things they all go through. And despite all that I just said, what a great piece of fictional action flick. It was just done to perfection that trying to describe it does it no justice. Love, love, love. If it doesn't win for "Best Picture" I will write a rage letter to the Academy.
