Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series
« on: 15 August 2009, 07:19:27 »
Oh, it's dead now, but give it until 2010 and this series will become huge. I just saw the trailer to the first movie, and ZOMG exciting! Alas something to look forward to before the World Cup!!

Trailer:

What's it about (the books anyway)?
Percy Jackson has ADHD and dyslexia, must be why he keeps getting kicked out of school. One summer, though, Percy and his mother are chased by a minotaur, which can't be right. Minotaurs aren't real! But, oh, yes they are. And Percy is a child of a god, you know...."mythological" Greek god. Percy seeks refuge at a summer camp for half-bloods (half-human half-god kids that is) and learns that he has been falsely accused of stealing Zeus's master bolt. Percy, along with a child of Athena by the name of Annabeth Chase, and Percy's best friend Grover Underwood, a satyr, embark on a quest to find the master bolt and find out who is framing Percy.
Well, that's the synopsis for the first book....it kind of leads into a lot foreshadowing that will shape up the rest of the series.

I've seen most of the cast and I must say two things:
1) Percy and Luke are really cute. I think the kid playing Percy is still jailbait though....let me go check. Oh yay! He's 17! Almost there!...oh my God, I've turned into Jessy/Papa Henry. ANYWAY, the actor playing Luke looks...good in the photos I've seen of him. Oh right, perhaps I should give visuals.
Logan Lerman, who will be portraying Percy Jackson. He was Christian Bale's son in "3:10 to Yuma". Onto Percy Jackson, I think looks-wise they did an amazing job, and from what I've seen on "3:10" I think Logan Lerman will definitely deliver.

And Jake Abel, who will be portraying Luke Castellan. He's an 1987'er so he's not jailbait. ::lol:: But he's exactly as I imagined Luke to look like. Can't wait to see him with the scar!

2) The supporting cast of well known actors is AWESOME. Sean Bean as Zeus; Kevin McKidd (*yay*) as Poseidon; Steve Coogan as Hades (OMFG I can't wait to see this!! ::lol::); and most of all Brandon T. Jackson as Grover!! There's a lot more, a bunch of people signed on to be gods and evil beings in this movie, but these four have me bouncing around excitedly.

The young actors seem older than the characters are in the books (Percy looks about 14-16...12 is stretching it a bit, and in the first book Percy is just about to reach his 12th birthday), but I guess we can overlook that?

Oooo I hope the movie adaptations will be good.

Damn little boys! Don't you remember when all the hot guys in movies were really too old for you. Now they're all too young :( ::lol::

I'm going to watch this movie though. Still not sure if that's because I find Greek mythology fascinating..........or because I find the guy that plays Percy cute  ::lol::

Oh yay!!!! You're on the Logan Lerman boat!! Woo hoo! He recently turned 18. ::lol:: Not so creepy now (well...ya know....still kind of creepy but he's legal).

All the older hot cast members are old enough to be my dad and all the young actors are a bit too young. O_O

I think you'll like this series. It stays quite dedicated and accurate to Greek mythology since Rick Riordan (the creator/writer of the book series) was a teacher and is a Greek mythology enthusiast. He wrote the Percy Jackson series for his son because he used to tell his son stories from the Greek mythologies and when he ran out of stories to tell he started a modern day tale of a demigod.

I had a mythology class in like 6th grade and I've kind of forgot how interesting I find it. I went on an hour long wiki-spree reading about the series, the gods and some of the actors. haha. (I always end up with like 15 tabs when that happens) ::lol::

I think seeing the movie will really reignite my interest. Are the books any good....as in would I be ashamed as an almost 20-year old reading them? ::lol::

logan is not too young for me ::lol::, but he's not the reason why i want to see this film (he's more like a great looking bonus !!) i want to see it because sean bean is in it, which seems strange maybe, but i think he's awsome!

Ahahaha Mari, the book series is pretty good. It's really funny, which I wasn't expecting. I got the books for my brother but I ended up reading them myself. ::lol:: I got a coworker of mine into the book series too and she's much older than me. ::lol:: It's filled with a lot of action too and like I said, it's a pretty accurate portrayal of Greek mythology. Give the first book a try and see if you like it. It's an easy read.

Aside from being a fan of the book series I initially was excited for the movie because Kevin McKidd is in the movie. I love him. ::lol:: Sean Bean is pretty cool too. I especially love that he's Zeus.

That's what my best friend said too! I don't know if it will because it looks like they made some pretty big changes for the film but....damn it, I loves me some Greek gods. ::lol::

I heard of the show but I never watched it. It sounded somewhat interesting but I never found the time to watch it.

Rosario Dawson is Persephone. Pretty rad, but I don't know why we'll be seeing her since she doesn't appear until a much later book. Oh well.

I saw that!

I'm kind of excited to see Uma Therman as Medusa.

Valentine wasn't really that great of a show though. Like I watched it a few times....but it was because I was really bored. haha. The guy who played Aries (I think) was hot though. He was such a player, but it was hot ::lol::

^ she doesnt look anything like Persephone. She's supposed to be blonde! I've read so much about greek mythology, it's never going to compare with me.

Sean Bean is the only one I approve of. Simply because he's my legend and I love him. He needs a bigger beard though.

Anthea looks perfect. I hope she has a helmet though ::lol::

I'm sorry, no like persephone. She's supposed to have like porcelain skin, isnt she? Meh, I supposed I'll get used to the butchering of the myths ::lol::
