"I try to learn what Real Madrid is all about and enjoy the team"
Arancha Diaz / Translation by Michael J. O'Donnell
Ezequiel Garay said he's been enjoying himself during the preseason and that he is delighted to be on the team.
How has the preseason been for you? Are you nervous about your presentation?
The preseason has been very special for me because it is nice to train next to team-mates that have superstar status. I try to distance myself from the presentation and instead try to learn what Real Madrid is all about and enjoy the team.
How is Sneijder?
He is integrated in the team and he looks fine to us. He is a great player.
Did you ever think you would leave Real Madrid?
No. I think you can always get something good out of working hard on a daily basis. It's obviously somewhat uncomfortable to have other teams interested in you, but it is also flattering at the same time. I knew what I had to do, which was to work hard in order to convince the coach and the Board.
What do you think of the possibility of having several players on the team without registration in competitions at the start of the season?
That's up to the Club. These things happen... It's a shame, but we must accept it.
Is it good or bad for the squad?
I don't know. We all know what we are here for and what we must do for the Club.
What did you think of Usain Bolt's record? Did you know he might visit the team?
He is a very interesting person to meet because he achieves superhuman feats. I can't believe what I see when I watch him on the TV. It makes me very happy to have the chance to meet such a sportsman.
It's been rumoured that Espanyol are interested in signing you. Has Pellegrini spoken to you about that?
There's been talk of some teams being interested in me, but the coach always comes to me first to tell me he counts on me. That makes me happy and gives me strength to carry on.
How is Cristiano Ronaldo coming along?
As we all know, Cristiano is both a great guy and a phenomenal player. He is integrating gradually and seems to be fine. I am delighted to play with him.
Do you think he feels the pressure of his transfer fee or uncomfortable with the tactical system?
His adaptation will take some time because he is on a new team, he has a new coach and he lives in a different city. He is an excellent player and he will soon start to shine on the pitch. I think he can do a lot for us.
Who's better, Messi or Ronaldo?
That's a tricky question for me because Messi is my compatriot. I've always said he surprised me when I first saw him play with the Argentinean Under-15 national team. Both are great players; they play for the best teams in the world for a reason.
