ronaldo deserves to be in the top 5 at least. he won the premier league and was the primary reason united reached the CL final.
Yeah Cristiano scored in every knockout round of the Champion's League (crucial goals too!), apart from the final, even Messi didn't do that. And Cristiano's top-scorer in the Champion's League this season right now.

AS again with "The most voted for"
Drogba - The fact that the World Cup takes place in South Africa, his continent, could put him among the favourites. That and also his strenght and his goals.
Luis Fabiano - Sevilla's striker has become the holder of Brazil's first team striker and the coaches appreciate his capacity to score goals
Iniesta - A similar case to that of Xavi. It took some time to admit it but he is at the moment considered one of the best in the world.
Villa - The capacity to score of the Spanish NT player didn't pass by unnoticed. He got many votes.
Casillas - If there is a goalkeeper who deserves the FIFA Player award that is Casillas. The NT coaches see him as the best on his post.
Xavi - "My thing is to make Ballon d'Or's, not win them" Xavi said in AS. Today he'll be among the best players in the world.
Messi - Barcelona's player is also a finalist and a pretendent to the title, even more thanks to the triple he won with Barca and for his game with Argentina
Cristiano - The portuguese player of Real Madrid has pull among the NT coaches. Today he'll be among the five finalists for the FIFA World Player.

Why doesn't AS say the reason Cristiano is nominated all the other players AS state why they are nominated...

well it's also because of the whole Spain winning the European Championship and everything...and well Barcelona did win last year everything there was to including the UCL (though for the last two years we've been having lots of english teams in the final four...as much as 3 outta 4)...and some great players are playing in La Liga for years now...(not to say that there not great players playing in Premiership or anything)... but anyway there is a difference between them in style and everything...to be honest i'm more for La Liga but Premiership has great games too
