Messi can create things out of nothing, hes really the main reason Barcelona are doing so well this season imo.

Actually when you look at their defense it is amazing if madrid had someone like puyol then that would be great. At the messi comment if Ron behaved like messi they would say he is selfish.In other words if he did everything on his own they would write Ron just care about himself and image.They never write that shit about messi.

Maybe Cristiano has asked the club to help him media wise? The club towards the end used to give Becks the kind of protection he got from the media at Utd. After the first year if the club didnt want a story to get out about Beckham it didnt get out. Maybe Cristiano has asked for the same sort of thing? He never seems at ease with the gossip media to me so it wouldnt surprise me if hes asked for privacy. Sergio and Guti ect seem to quite enjoy that side of life so they dont ask for the protection.

They cant fully control it but they certainly bargain with the Spanish based media. And with Madrid thats where a lot of the stories start, with the Spanish reporters..it then gets relayed to the foreign media.

True, the only story that I can remeber about Beckham and girls in Madrid was the Rebecca Loos one but that was from the English press, I read alot of rumours about Beckham and girls at parties etc but nothing too harmful to him really came out did it??

In his first year there was a lot of stories, he was linked to a lot of women but when the Loos story broke i think it open the clubs eyes that he needed more protection from the press. After that hardly any - if any at all came out. It really wouldnt surprise me if Cristiano has a similar type of protection.

I am not saying that messi is selfish what I am saying is messi gets praised for individual work while cris would get a BS response for his individual work.

Maybe but it seems to work for Messi most of the time, he either scores or assists each game, so when it works it's great, when it doesn't you will probably get bashed for it it's a fine line.

but he is "selfish" too, great striker have to be selfish, if he passed the ball today he wouldn' t score,
even when he had 2 goals, my tv comentator said "oh, Messi wanted that ball, even if he has 2 goals it is not enough for him".
So I found Cristiano' s problem is that he is trying not to be selfish in , sometimes I can' t recognise him. There were many situations when he had double and he was trying to create for Benzema, Raul, at the start of the season, he didn go for hat trick.
And the only conection that works for him in are with Guti and Kaka. In ALL players try to score, I think only Iker hasn' t tried. In Barsa isn' t that situation, others try to score only if they are in really good position.
But now I 'm not angry any more like I was last night about "Cristiano situation". It will be better, Messi is just great and nobody can compare with him right now.

True all great strikers have to have a selfish streak to them.

I think Barcelona have a great understanding where as Real Madrid is a new team.

Just imagine if CR did what Messi is doing last couple of weeks, people in Spain couldn' t live from CR,
he would be in their fridge too. Since his move to he become so huge mediatic person that sometimes it' s too much.

You think they aren't praising Messi alot in Spain right now?? maybe not as much as Barcelona newspapers are, but the Madrid press have a healthy respect for him too, unlike the Barcelona press to Cristiano.

I wouldn't worry about the paparazzi not caring. They care but it's pretty obvious that he's avoiding them and I think they've been warned off. He's been out with some pretty famous people (like Usain Bolt) and he's dined with people like the boss of Ferrari without getting photographed. I assume he goes out with non-famous people as well.

The Spanish TV channels keep trying to come up with headlines that sound like they're about his private life but actually come up with nothing more than a sighting or a rumour. The press occasionally mumble vaguely about him going to parties at other players houses or hotel rendezvous.

I doubt that he's turned into a saint since arriving in Madrid - I think he's just been given some advice about which places are "safe" and he's had no reason to ignore it. He's certainly got no reason to want any more publicity than he already gets - even the routine training/playing/travelling stuff gets massive coverage in the sporting press and on the TV - far more than there ever was in the UK.
