Vidmar is ruled out of World Cup
Australia defender Tony Vidmar is out of the World Cup after tests revealed he has an irregular heartbeat.
The 35-year-old NAC Breda player, formerly of Rangers and Middlesbrough, discovered the problem during tests on a rib injury.
Australia's most-capped player said: "It's come as a real shock, but I had no other choice.
"In the interests of my own health and the team I had to withdraw from being considered for the World Cup."
Vidmar, who has also played for Middlesbrough and Rangers, has played 75 times for Australia since making his international debut in 1991.
