Summary: The cold wind blew as everyone in the district waited. Waited to know who would go & who would stay. Afraid that it could be one of them. I feared only for my family. It would hurt me more to watch a loved one get sent to that horrible place. Where only one survives. Where one has to fight against everyone & everything. Where the only rule was to stay alive. They were the dreaded yearly games?the Hunger Games.

Disclaimer: I do not own the book ?The Hunger Games?. I just really like the story & thought I should do it footballer style. I also might change some of the events in the story. It won?t be exactly the same as the Hunger Games series.

Authors Notes: I read the Hunger Games series & became obsessed with it. So, I thought I?d combine it with something else I really enjoy?Footballer Fanfics.

Chapter 1: Game Day.

Characters: Margo & Sergio.

I woke up knowing today was the day. The day of the games.

The games we?re something the government of my country, Menap, came up with when we our ancestors attempted to rebel & overthrow them over 70 years ago. The games were our punishment. That is how they showed us how powerful they were.

Menap is divided into 12 districts. There used to be a 13th but it was destroyed by Government City many years ago.

Every year, a boy & a girl from each district is chosen by a lottery to participate in the Hunger games. The ?tributes?, as Government City calls them, have to be ages 13-18. Once two tributes from each district are chosen, they are sent off to Government City where they enter an arena. A place where only one of them gets out alive?

The games last weeks or until there is only one person left standing.
The games begin with all 24 tributes surrounding the cornucopia. The cornucopia is full of weaponds, supplies, food, fire starters, first aid, etc. As soon as they hear the signal, the tributes rush to get whatever they can & fight for whatever they need.

In the games, trust no one.

Its survival of the best & only the best win. Only the best know how to stay alive. It also depends on being charismatic. The games are broadcasted on live TV for every district to watch. If you are a crowd favorite, you receive survival rewards. This assures you will last at least longer than others in the arena.

I got out of bed knowing I might lose one of my friends, maybe someone really close to me. Or maybe even myself.

?May the Lord be with you & guide you.? Was the slogan of the Hunger Games because if you were chosen, you better pray God was on your side.
I walked into the kitchen where I saw my younger sister eating and my mother making my breakfast. ?Hurry up, Margo! You know we have to be at the lottery today.? My mother seemed nervous. She feared for my sister & I.

I responded, ?I?m not hungry, mother. Lets just head off to the lottery. Its just about to start & it?s a ten minute walk.? She asked me, ?Are you sure?? I looked at her, the worry in her face made her seem tired. Also, she overworked  herself to pay the bills. ?Mother, I?m sure. I hate eating the day of the games. It makes me feel really sick.?

She nodded & we headed out the door. This was the last time I?d see my mother & sister in a long time.

?Margo Bane!?

As I heard my name through the speakers, I froze. I never thougt I?d get chosen. I mean, what were the odds of ME getting pulled out of a box with over one thousand names in it?

?Come on over, Margo.? Said the Mayor of District 8 through the microphone. As I walked to the stage, people just stared & I looked back at my mother. Her eyes were red & there were tears in her eyes.

It pained me to see her that way so I tried not to cry, I didn?t want her to see how afraid I really was.

The mayor walked over to the box & said, ?Now its time to pick our boy tribute.? He stuck his hand in the box & pulled out a strip of paper. His eyes widened in shock as he read the name, ??Sergio Canales.?

Sergio Canales was his son.

Sergio walked calmly up to the stage & whispered to his father, ?Don?t worry about me, dad. I play soccer, I can run.? And he half smiled at him. He didn?t want to worry his father.

I didn?t know him very much. He was a popular guy at my school and he played soccer. I was one of those girls who wasn?t invisible, but also wasn?t completely over the top popular.

He stood next to me & smiled, ?Hey, I?m Sergio. & You are Margo, right??

I replied, ?Right now isn?t the time to be social, ?Boy Tribute?.? He seemed almost shocked at my reply. He probably expected me to act all gaga just like all the other girls at school.

?You know, that was rude. I am hurt. I was just trying to make this less difficult for you. I?m sure this isn?t easy to deal with, ?Girl Tribute?.?, He smirked as he did air quotes.

I glared at him even though I kind of wanted to smile. He was being really calm about this whole Might-Not-Make-Out-Alive deal. He was also attempting to make me smile & I really appreciated it.

I kissed my mother goodbye & set off for Government City with Sergio in his father?s car. I was very afraid that I?d never see my family again, but at the same time I was glad my sister didn?t get chosen.

Chapter 2: The Chosen 24.

Margo & Sergio.

We arrived at Gov City. It was so luxurious, it almost seemed unreal. It was paradise in comparison to where I lived.

District 8 was great if you loved the outdoors, which I did. I lived right next to The Wild. But Gov City was beautiful. Buildings & city lights were everywhere. We parked in front of the arena?s hotel. This was where Sergio & I had to wait until all the tributes arrived.

?Nice place, eh?? Sergio laughed. It was a sound that made me feel safe if only for a few seconds.

I punched him in the arm & half smiled, ?Shut up. This isn?t funny. Doesn?t it worry you that you might not survive this??

We got out of the car & walked inside. There, a receptionist took one look at us & said, ?Follow me.?
She walked us through a dark hallway with creaky floor boards & six rooms on each side. Each door had a number. She stopped in the hall & asked us, ?District??

Sergio, still being very calm about the whole thing, replied, ?District 8, ma?am. Can we get some food brought to us? We just got here from very far away &?? The woman turned around & walked away without saying anything more to us.

Sergio made a face of shock. The same face he made when I was rude to him at the lottery.

?Did she just walk away from me? This is just great. I try to lighten things up a bit & suddenly all women hate me.? He opened the door labeled ?D8? & walked over to a bed with an old matress on it. I closed the door behind me & sat next to him. There was something about him right then & there, that I just couldn?t help myself.

I burst out laughing.

Not a quiet laugh either. It was a full-on hysterical laugh. Sergio just stared at me like there might be something wrong with me. I kept laughing & after about five minutes, I tried catching my breath, ?I?m?so sorry?Sergio.? I laughed again, ?I really don?t mean to laugh at you?I don?t know what?s wrong with me.?

He seemed to think about it & finally said, ?You know, it WAS pretty funny.? Then he started laughing with me.

Jack & Alyssa.

As Jack & I sat on the old matress, not saying a word to each other, we heard something.

A laugh, maybe?

?Is someone laughing?? Jack seemed confused. At eighteen years of age, you?d think I?d be traveling to other places. & I had been. But the government of Menap made it a rule that all teenagers 13-18 had to come back to their district for the Hunger games.

At least I was chosen to come with a guy I always had a crush on. Jack was a great guy. But he was seen by everyone as a player. He always had a girl by his side. Not girl friends though, just friends with priviledges. I always wondered why he never asked me though. He?d asked just about every girl in District One. Maybe he was just never into me or something, but I always secretly loved him.

His voice interrupted my thoughts, ?Hey, Alyssa.? He spoke again, ?I said ?Is someone laughing?? Do you hear the laughter? Or am I going crazy??

?No, Jack. You?re not going crazy. Yet. I hear it too. I think its coming from District 7?s room.? I replied.

?What could they possibly be laughing about??

?No idea.? Really. What could two tributes be laughing about? I didn't understand.

He stood up & opened the door. I followed him & walked across the hall. We listened for a few seconds & realized the laugher came from Districs 8?s room. We knocked on the door lightly & the laughter came to a stop, followed my the door opening slowly a minute later.

A boy & a girl about our age were there. The boy, who was blonde & very attractive said, ?Who are you??

Everything about him was attractive. He had green eyes that were beautiful. His hair was a bit long, it covered his eyebrows in a nice shade of dirty blonde.

I replied, ?We heard some laughter & came to check it out. I?m Alyssa.? I held out my hand to him & he shook it. I stared into his eyes & suddenly forgot that Jack was there.

Jack then grabbed me by the shoulders & pulled me away from him. He glared at me, ?Yes, Alyssa. Ok.? Then he turned to glare at the boy & said, ?Jack.?

Camila & Cesc.

After hearing the laughs stop, Cesc & I decided to go out & check. There were a boy & a girl standing in the hallway. They were talking to the kids from District 8.

Cesc started walking towards them & I whispered, ?Cesc! Get over here. What are you doing??

Cesc just grinned & kept walking, ?Its nice to meet the enemy before one has to slaughter them. Don?t you think so, Camila??

He looked at the ones standing in the hallway & said, ?Fabregas, Cesc. & My partner is Camila. District two. You are?? The girl was dressed in nice clothes, she seemed like the rich type. Probably wouldn?t stand a chance in the arena.

She smiled politely at Cesc & replied, ?I am Alyssa & this is Jack. We?re from District One.?

Rich type.

I knew it. Distric One is the richest district.

?Ah. District one. Daddy couldn?t get you out of getting chosen?? He smirked.

?I?m just a regular person just like all of you. & Just like in all other Districts, anyone can get chosen.? She replied coldly.

She also seemed touchy about getting called rich. But if the boot fits, right?

I walked over & stood next to Cesc. The others, from District 8 didn?t seem like rich people. They actually seemed pretty humble. My type of people. I smiled at them, ?Hey. I?m Camila.? I completely ignored the two rich kids next to me.

The girl smiled back at me & said, ?Nice to meet you. I?m Margo & this is Sergio. District 8.? I gave them a light hug & smiled again, ?District 8. Cool. I?m from District 2.? Margo seemed like a really nice girl, I liked her.

?Come in, we can all talk inside.? Said Margo.

We followed her into the room & shut the door behind us. Margo asked, ?Do you know if any others have arrived??

?That I know of, Six, Twelve, Eleven & Four aren?t here yet.? Cesc & I were the second ones to arrive & we heard most of the others get here.

The only thing left to do was wait. The remaining Districts were on their way & the games were headed towards us. I saw these kids now as just people. But in the arena, I?d see them with different eyes. We?d all be blood thirsty & with the hope of surviving.

They?d become my enemy.

All of them.

Even my District partner, Cesc.
