NANDO FRETS OVER SPAIN FUTURE
Fernando Morientes has admitted he is worried that the door to international football may remain permanently closed to him whilst Luis Aragones remains in charge of Spain.
Since leaving Liverpool the Valencia striker has hit seven goals in seven games, but even such blistering form was not enough to earn a recall to La Furia Roja as Aragones opted for two strikers in the shape of Fernando Torres and David Villa for the Euro 2008 qualifier against Sweden.
Morientes also missed out on the World Cup finals and the Che hot-shot says he is concerned about his chances of adding to his 43 caps and 26 international goals.
"Some time ago I said I thought the door to the national team was still open to me but now I think it is beginning to close little by little," said Morientes.
"If I'm not included in the side the way I'm playing at the moment then it seems very unlikely that it will happen in the future because I don't think I can maintain this sort of form forever."
Morientes also criticised Aragones for the manner in which he dropped former sparring partner Raul for the first time in his international career ahead of the qualifier in Solna.
Morientes and Raul enjoyed a prolific partnership together at Real Madrid and the Valencia new-boy says his old friend should have been given the courtesy of a phone call considering his achievements on the international scene.
"Aside from the debate over whether or not he should have been included, the manner he did it was probably not the most appropriate," Morientes added.
"Given who it was, it would have been more logical to have rung the player before the announcement.
"Everyone has their own opinion about the decision.
"He could be playing well or badly, scoring or not scoring, but he is the top goalscorer for Spain, he has been the captain for many years and has been one of the most capped players of all time."
What is Aragones doing!!!!! Moro should have been selected!!!
