Lavolpe trims Mexico squad

Mexico coach Ricardo Lavolpe has unveiled his final World Cup squad after trimming three players from his initial group of 26.

Joel Huiqui, Jaime Lozano and Israel Lopez were all left disappointed, although they have been invited to join the squad in Germany for the finals.

Veteran defender Claudio Suarez has therefore been picked at the age of 37, and Lavolpe has also included two naturalised players in Guillermo Franco and Antonio Naelson.

Mexico travel to France on May 20 before playing a friendly against Les Bleus on May 27, and have a further warm-up against Holland before the finals.

Lavope's men take on Angola, Iran and Portugal in Group D in Germany.

Mexico Squad:

Goalkeepers: Oswaldo Sanchez (Guadalajara/Chivas), Guillermo Ochoa (America), Jesus Corona (UAG/Tecos).

Defenders: Jose Antonio Castro (America), Rafael Marquez (Barcelona), Mario Mendez (Monterrey), Ricardo Osorio (Cruz Azul), Francisco Rodriguez (Guadalajara/Chivas), Carlos Salcido (Guadalajara/Chivas), Claudio Suarez (Chivas USA), Andres Guardado (Atlas), Gonzalo Pineda (Guadalajara/Chivas).

Midfielders: Luis Perez (Monterrey), Pavel Pardo (America), Antonio Naelson (Toluca), Rafael Garcia (Atlas), Gerardo Torrado (Cruz Azul), Ramon Morales (Guadalajara/Chivas).

Forwards: Jared Borgetti (Bolton Wanderers), Guillermo Franco (Villarreal), Francisco Fonseca (Cruz Azul), Omar Bravo (Guadalajara/Chivas), Jesus Arellano (Monterrey).

Mexico see off Congo

Mexico continued their build-up for the World Cup finals with a 2-1 win over DR Congo.

Francisco Fonseca was the hero for Mexico with both goals for the World Cup finalists.

The home side got off to a flying start with Fonseca firing them in front after just three minutes.

Fonseca doubled the lead four minutes before the break to put Mexico in firm control.

Meu Mbokani pulled a goal back three minutes after the break, but Mexico held to take the victory.

Mexico now face France next week in another friendly as they continue plans for next month's finals.

I know!! they can beat us in basketbasll, baseball, or american football.. but football used to be Mexico's thing!! :(
Anyway, I think Hugo Sánchez will do a good job with el Tri. From what I saw in that match, everything was good EXCEPT the strikers. And that just sucks cuz you can't win a game if you don't score. Omar Bravo and Kikín screwed a couple of good opportunities. Jared Borgetti and Blanco are not at their best but they can still do something. I hope they all get better with practice and as they train with Hugo.. they only had 2 training sessions together before that game

Yes i tought the same Cris! i cant believe that on the past baseball world cup, Mexico beated USA! and on football they can do nothing important, im confident on Hugo aswell, and im sure tha nery castillo and carlos vela will be our future strikers or also Landin from Pachuca, i can stand on el bofo bautista and Bravo they should be out aswell as Blanco

I didn't know Mexico had beaten USA in baseball!! Wow. I'm honestly not into baseball cause it's slooow. Yeah, I also expect Nery Castillo and Carlos Vela to play, but I think I don't know Landin. You know who is playing great? Andrés Guardado! he amazed me.. he should be in the starting line up
