yeah i think it's good that the dixie chicks won. i liked their song.
i am too! but not many know who they are outside the US and any major countries they had issues with. their song, Not Ready To Make Nice, right? was about the controversies that their political outbursts in England and against US pres dickhead George Bush. if your country didn't have 'beef' with them, then you probably have no idea who they are. :]
wait can you explain that whole dixi chicks-Bush thing? I've heard of this, but never got the whole story lol
well i heard that one of the girls said that she is embrassed to come from the same state as Bush. or smth like that. tho Megan and Pragya will know better i think
yeah, basically, you hit the nail on teh head right there. the lead singer Natalie something or other said that she was ashamed to come from Texas. as it is with most country singers, they come from the south, or like Keith Urban, a different continent, though he's still from teh southern hemisphere. lol.
anyway, she said, "Just so you know, we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas." and it happened to be in London inbetween songs. it didn't help that it was on teh eve of America's invasion of Iraq (which i could so rant about FOREVER and the stupidities of my president and how i loathe being american and the sterotypes tha come with it... all that jazz, but i won't.) which cause MAJOR outburst and lashing out from the republican party community, not to mention A whole shitload of Americans. we were supposed to show a united front, for gods sake the next day we went to WAR, and then one of the biggest musical icons and celebrated female group (after Destiny's Child) goes and says that she hates to be in any way connected to the commander-in-chief. (those of you who don't know, the American president is also the commander-in-chief in charge of war relations, though we have to go through congress and senate first) Not really a great thing. any way, there was a lot of media speculation and fallout for Dixie Chicks, but honestly, that only made me more interested in their music and the messages they had to say. they were really the first to say that war was wrong in Iraq of the hollywood and music moguls, but MANY more followed. :]
anyway, after all that, Not Ready To Make Nice is an excellent song that shows the joy of Freedom of Speech in america, and also the freedom to hate them. i recommend it to anyone who even marginally likes country/pop. :]
