so let's keep this straight, Rio get's banned 8 months for missing a test in which he took later and tested negative and Newton gets banned for 7 months for taking cocaine.. yeah thats right, not!!

it's stupid footballers actually throw there career away like this when football gives them so much..

say no to drugs!

if this was a Manchester United player it would be something like a 8/9 year ban!! and been made a example of.

woah 7 months..

a famous aussie cricketer (shane warne) tested positive to Moduretic.. which ive never even heard of but apparantly it makes the tissues in ur body heal faster if u tear them and he got suspended for a year and thats not even a serious drug!!

Seems right. Cocain is a recreational drug and although it does obviously have effects on the body it isnt a  PHD (Performance enhansing drug) whereas  Moduretic is which is why that ban was longer. Mutu and Bosnich got similar bans.

This shuld be in football activities though.

isn't cocaine considered performance enhancing in other sports though?

If you take a performance enhancing drugs you can expect 2 years up to life bans..

so the simple answer is just to say NO to drugs! damnit you got a life of a king as a footballer why throw it away?

Its classified as recreational, although i belive it should be classified as PHD as it increases the speed of some body functions.

I always wonder the same thing. Footballers have a great life and i just cant understand why they'd risk their careers for a quick high.

He reckons he was depressed which is why he took it.. although away from the footballing thing, he's a daddy which is setting a worse example than the fact he's a prem footballer. still, he'll learn his lesson now hopefully, he said he doesn't have a habit so lets hope he doesn't touch them again. Oh and the comment about "if he was a man utd player" etc etc, he would have got the same ban lets not all try and get sympathy for man utd players eh?

@ Majiek,

I don't quite understand your argument here. First of all you are saying that he only got 7 Months, yet Ferdinand got 8 Months for missing a test and you are complaining that if he was a Man U player he would of got a 8/9 year ban.
You then state "Say no to drugs".
I'm afraid that in my opinion they should both have been given life bans.
Cocaine is classed as a recreational drug, it is a stimulant of the nervous system and an appetite suppresant. Maybe Newton has a weight problem?
