Audrey Tautou to play Coco ChanelAUDREY TAUTOU, STAR of Amelie and The Da Vinci Code, will play fashion visionary Coco Chanel in a film documenting the designer's life.
French filmmaker Anne Fontaine will direct Tautou in the $15 million movie concentrating on Chanel's childhood and the years leading to her rise to fashion royalty.
'I wanted to follow the interior path of this young woman who was poor, without education, but who had an uncommon personality that was ahead of her time,' she told reporters this week.
As a young woman Chanel was born into poverty and learned to sew in a Catholic orphanage after her mother died and she was abandoned by her father.
Shooting on the movie will begin next year and is one of a number of films about the French designer currently in the works. Director William Friedkin (The Exorcist) is currently working on a film about Chanel's relationship with the composer Igor Stravinsky, with actress Marina Hands in the lead role, while film writer and director Daničle Thompson is also in the early stages of a Chanel biopic.
i think audrey is an excellent choice because shes a great actress and also she looks a lot like coco chanel
