Brit style icon Victoria Beckham crossed the Pond to hit the big time in fashion, but yesterday the stick figure known as Posh Spice suffered her first Hollywood flop when fashionisto Mr. Blackwell named her the Worst-Dressed Celebrity of 2007.
?In one skinny-mini monstrosity after another, pouty ?Posh? can really wreck-em,? Blackwell said when releasing his annual list of fashion fiascos among music, movie and TV stars.
In the No. 2 spot was yet another Brit - the troubled and tattooed Amy Winehouse
?Exploding beehives above, tacky polka-dots below,? said Blackwell.
Um, that?s all he could say???
Next up was owl-eyed Mary-Kate Olsen whose diminutive frame and floppy fashion
?is hard to explain,? said Blackwell.
?She resembles a tattered toothpick trapped in a hurricane,? he said.
Avril Lavigne, Jessica Simpson and Lindsay Lohan also took their barbs. But not Tinseltown trainwreck Britney Spears. He gave her a pass this year.
?I felt that it was inappropriate at this time to make comment, when her personal life is in such upheaval,? said the ol? style softie. ?I hope 2008 is a better year for her.?Blackwell has issued his ?Worst-Dressed? list for 48 years, and for just as long it has been widely watched and talked about among fashion followers. He began his career in the 1950s, had his own clothing line for 35 years and designed for vintage stars Jayne Mansfield, Peggy Lee and Jane Russell.
He said this past year stands out as one of the ?most disastrous fashion years in recent memory.?Singers seemed to hold a key spot in Blackwell?s mind in 2007 with pop stars Fergie and Kelly Clarkson as No. 4 and No. 5 in the worst-dressed rankings.
He also released a Fabulous Fashion Independents list that includes
Reese Witherspoon, Jemima Khan, Beyoncé, Angelina Jolie, Helen Mirren, Nicole Kidman, Katie Holmes, Kate Middleton, Katherine Heigl and Cate Blanchett.
